Report: Internet freedom in this country now as repressed as China’s.
CNN For the past decade, China has consistently ranked last in the world for internet freedom due to its all-pervading online surveillance and content control system dubbed the “Great Firewall.”

A new report reveals that internet freedoms in China’s neighboring country, Myanmar, have also deteriorated significantly. Freedom House’s report shows that global internet freedom has declined for the 14th consecutive year, with Myanmar joining China at the bottom of the list with a score of nine out of 100.

The report highlights how Myanmar’s military junta, following a 2021 coup, aggressively limited online access and speech, imposing widespread internet shutdowns and creating a surveillance regime to curb dissent.

The report underscores the significant challenges faced by individuals seeking information in Myanmar, highlighting the junta’s efforts to suppress pro-democracy activists and enforce a digital dictatorship. Additionally, it discusses China’s continued crackdown on online dissent, including stringent regulations on cyberspace.
