Over 250 arrested in protests over alleged Lahore rape spreading to Rawalpindi – Pakistan

Violent protests erupted in Rawalpindi following the alleged rape of a Lahore student, leading to the arrest of 250 demonstrators as police utilized tear gas to disperse the crowd. The incident, which caused outrage on social media, resulted in clashes between students and security forces, leaving 28 individuals injured. While Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz dismissed the allegations as “fabricated news,” tensions remained high as protesters continued to demand justice.

In response, Rawalpindi Police arrested over 250 individuals and vowed to take legal action against anyone violating the law during protests. The situation was further exacerbated by similar demonstrations in other Punjab cities, prompting police deployment and heightened security measures. The Progressive Students’ Collective also joined the movement, vowing to escalate protests until their demands were met.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court summoned top officials in response to a petition regarding the harassment of female students in educational institutions. The court ordered an investigation into the incidents and called for increased protection for women on campus.

As the situation unfolds, the demand for justice and accountability continues to resonate, highlighting the urgency for authorities to address the growing concerns of the public.
