NATO and Ukraine forging closer ties – Secretary General

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently expressed NATO’s commitment to working closely with Ukraine to bring the country closer to Alliance membership. During a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Rutte highlighted the significant role China plays in enabling Russia’s war against Ukraine. Rutte voiced his hope for Ukraine to eventually join NATO and pledged ongoing support to ensure Ukraine’s security. The remarks were made at a two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, where Ukraine’s President Zelensky presented Ukraine’s Victory Plan to EU leaders.

The NATO-Ukraine Council meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Alliance and Ukraine, underscoring the importance of collective security in the region. Rutte’s statements underscored the urgent need for joint efforts to address threats to peace and stability, emphasizing the pivotal role Ukraine plays in shaping European security.
