The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) is currently conducting a needs assessment of 513 flood-affected communities in Kogi State. This initiative comes in response to the devastating flood effects in the state, as explained by Mr. Jimoh Haruna, N-HYPPADEC’s Director of Finance and Administration, during a press conference in Lokoja.
The commission is dedicated to providing assistance to alleviate the suffering of residents affected by the floods. Teams have been dispatched to the nine affected Local Government Areas to assess the needs of the communities. The goal is to offer targeted interventions tailored to each community’s specific requirements.
N-HYPPADEC emphasizes the importance of safety, advising residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds. The needs assessment will identify infrastructure gaps, decayed structures, and areas requiring renovation or construction, ensuring that communities receive the necessary support.
Haruna also highlighted the commission’s successful erosion control project in Akpankiti Community, underscoring their commitment to improving living standards and preventing future disasters. The commission aims to provide only what the communities truly need, as seen in their past projects such as the KotonKarfe road rehabilitation efforts.
