In a shocking revelation, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly referred to his party’s presidential nominee, Donald Trump, as a “stupid,” “ill-tempered,” and “despicable human being” in private conversations captured in his personal oral histories. These damning assessments were disclosed to Michael Tackett, who is working on a biography about McConnell titled The Price of Power.
McConnell’s candid remarks were made after Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, expressing relief at the prospect of him leaving office. Despite publicly blaming Trump for the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, McConnell has surprisingly endorsed the former president for the 2024 election, aligning himself with other Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. John Cornyn who have also had a change of heart.
McConnell’s book will shed light on his private musings about Trump’s escalating instability post-election, noting, “For a narcissist like him, that’s been really hard to take, and so his behavior since the election has been even worse, by far, than it was before, because he has no filter now at all.”
