Limitations of Iron Dome in Defending Haifa from Hezbollah’s Missiles

Hezbollah’s rocket attacks have caused significant destruction in Haifa and other northern Israeli cities over the past year, highlighting the insufficiency of the Iron Dome missile defense system. Despite media censorship, the attacks continue to escalate, posing a challenge to Israel’s defense systems.

The Iron Dome, designed to intercept short-range artillery rockets, struggles against Hezbollah’s multi-barrel rocket launchers, which overwhelm the system with high-speed rockets. Drones also present a threat, with kamikaze drones carrying heavy explosives.

With interception costs and effectiveness in mind, Israel faces the need to push Hezbollah north of the Litani River per UN Resolution 1701 for better defense. The longer a projectile remains in flight, the higher the chances of interception, emphasizing the need for effective defense strategies.
