Lebanon confirmed its first cholera case since 2022, amidst the ongoing Israeli offensive, triggering a wave of displacement. An unnamed woman from the town of Sammouniyeh in Akkar was admitted to the hospital with severe symptoms.
A cholera investigation is underway to determine water contamination as the source of infection. Measures to contain the disease will be enacted following the first confirmed case.
The Return of Cholera
Lebanon’s first cholera case since 1993 reemerged amid a financial crisis and recent Israeli offensive. The government’s emergency committee is addressing the crisis as displaced families seek shelter.
Hezbollah’s involvement in the conflict against Israel has intensified, resulting in casualties and injuries. The situation remains critical as Lebanon grapples with the impacts of the ongoing war.
