Tragedy in Jigawa: Petrol tanker explosion kills 147

A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya town, Jigawa State, resulted in the loss of over 147 lives and left many others injured. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and despair as people ran in all directions, screaming for help amidst the flames.
The disaster was triggered by residents attempting to collect spilt petrol from the overturned tanker, leading to a massive inferno. Police conducted a mass burial for the victims, with the entire community mourning the tragic loss.
Government officials, including Governor Umar Namadi and a high-level delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu, visited the site to console the victims and assess the situation. The oil minister directed an investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for stricter safety measures in petroleum transportation.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Senate, Defence Minister, and other officials expressed sadness and condolences to the families of the victims, urging increased public awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
