The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) are currently investigating whether one of the militants killed in the Gaza Strip is Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The militants’ identities have not been confirmed yet.
The joint statement released by the Israeli military stated that there were no signs of hostages in the area where the militants were eliminated. The forces are operating with caution as the investigation continues.
Yahya Sinwar, known for orchestrating the October 2023 attack on Israel which led to the Gaza conflict, became Hamas’ political bureau chief after the former leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated in Tehran. His possible involvement in the recent events has put Hamas back in the spotlight.
