Iranian FM addresses regional tensions in Cairo with Egyptian officials

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, made a historic visit to Cairo to discuss escalating tensions in the region with Egyptian officials after around a decade of no high-level Iranian visits to Egypt. The discussions, held with Egypt’s Foreign Minister and President, focused on deescalating conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon amid fears of a regional conflict.

Egypt’s President emphasized the need to end Israel’s war in Gaza to prevent it from spreading throughout the region, highlighting the potential risks to all neighboring nations. Araghchi’s visit is part of a broader diplomatic mission through Syria, Lebanon, Qatar, Oman, and Iraq, aiming to ease tensions in the volatile region amidst fears of an impending Israeli offensive following Iran’s recent missile attacks.

The visit coincided with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman’s meeting with President El-Sissi, where they emphasized the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as vital for achieving peace and security. The leaders called for de-escalation, ceasefire, and humanitarian aid in Gaza and Lebanon while respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.
