Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit recently announced the successful digitization of civil status records in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Casablanca-Settat regions, with plans to expand this system nationwide. The digitization process involves inventorying, scanning, and verifying civil status records before storing them digitally.
This development comes as a result of Law 21-36, approved in 2023, which aims to replace manual systems with digital processes. The ministry is now collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend this system to Moroccan consulates and diplomatic services abroad, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
The national digital civil status system includes key components such as the civil status portal, information management system, national civil status register, electronic data exchange, and civil-social ID number. Additionally, the electronic family booklet consolidates records for spouses, children, and relevant data through the civil status management information system.
With these advancements, Morocco is set to streamline civil status processes, enhance data security, and adapt to modern technological standards in civil administration.
