John Lee Ka-chiu Unveils Holistic Economic Blueprint in Latest Policy Address

Hong Kong business leaders applaud Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s latest policy address, calling it a much-needed economic blueprint for the city’s growth. The plan includes measures to support smaller enterprises, ease mortgage lending restrictions, and attract global capital in the short term, while focusing on establishing Hong Kong as a global financial services, maritime, and trade hub in the long term.

However, concerns have been raised by some stakeholders regarding the lack of comprehensive plans to address the issue of subdivided housing. The Concerning Subdivided Units Alliance expressed disappointment over the policy’s failure to meet society’s expectations and tenant concerns, calling for more concrete implementation details and advocating for tenant relocation as a solution.

As part of the blueprint, proposed legislation will mandate that subdivided flats must have windows, toilets, and a minimum size of 86 sq ft to improve living conditions for the city’s vulnerable populations.

Overall, John Lee Ka-chiu’s policy address has been met with a mix of praise and criticism, highlighting the complex challenges facing Hong Kong as it navigates towards a more sustainable and inclusive economic future.
