German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has confirmed that Berlin will continue to support the Israeli occupation by supplying it with weapons while emphasizing the importance of Israel adhering to international law and working towards a two-state solution.
Scholz stated at the European Union leaders’ summit, “Supporting Israel means guaranteeing its defense capacity by supplying military equipment and weapons.”
The United States is the largest arms supplier to Israel, accounting for 69% of arms imports, along with financial aid and joint development of military systems. Germany is the second-largest arms exporter, providing 30% of the occupation’s arms imports including ammunition, ground vehicles, and military technology.
Despite calls for Israel to comply with international law, the support for its defense capabilities remains a priority, illustrating the complex dynamics of global arms trade and political relationships in the Middle East.
