Gardaí have received correspondence from Sinn Féin regarding the resignation of TD Brian Stanley, which is currently being examined after being handed in by a Sinn Féin member who is also a barrister at Kevin Street Garda Station in Dublin. The material includes text messages and a cover letter detailing alleged incidents on 11 and 13 October last year.
The cover letter suggests possibilities for further investigation by An Garda Síochána, prompting the authorities to assess the need for an official investigation. Garda headquarters confirmed the receipt of the correspondence from a third-party organization but made no further comment.
Meanwhile, the Dáil Committee of Selection has approved Sinn Féin’s proposal to replace Mr. Stanley as chair of the Public Accounts Committee, which will go to the Dáil for a vote next week. The matter has been handled swiftly and without debate.
