Iran Condemns EU-GCC Statement Accusing of “Occupation” of Islands

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly denounced a statement by the EU and GCC accusing Iran of “occupation” of the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa. Araghchi refuted the claims, stating that the islands have always belonged to Iran and will remain as such.

Historically, the islands have been part of Iran, with sovereignty restored in 1971. The statement was criticized for disregarding the UN Charter’s principle of respect for state sovereignty and diverting attention from vital issues, like the Israeli regime’s aggression.

Iran reiterated its commitment to peaceful nuclear activities and defensive capabilities for self-defense and regional stability. In the face of unfounded allegations, Iran maintains responsible use of military capabilities in line with international law.

The EU-GCC statement was rebuked by Iran for interference and baseless claims, highlighting the need for regional leaders to address pressing issues and hold countries accountable for supporting aggression.
