The US and the UK launched air strikes on Yemen in response to the country’s support for Gaza. The strikes targeted areas in the north and south of the capital, Sanaa, as well as other locations in Sa’ada and east of the city. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed the use of B-2 stealth bombers to attack underground weapons storage facilities.
This marks the first time the US has used stealth bombers in Yemen since the start of the aggression. President Joe Biden authorized the strikes to degrade the capabilities of the Houthi rebels, who have been carrying out operations in support of Gaza against Israeli targets.
A Yemeni military source stated that the use of stealth bombers indicates American panic over Yemen’s possession of surprise air weapons. Despite the attacks, strategic weapons in Yemen remain intact and operational.
Overall, the recent air strikes reflect the escalating tensions between global powers and Yemen due to its stance on supporting oppressed Palestinian people.
