A breakthrough in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case, which had gone cold, occurred in 2019 when a police officer provided information leading to the identification of the first two suspects. As the state concludes its case against the five men accused of Meyiwa’s murder, lead investigator Brig Bongani Gininda testified about his findings, indicating that intruders were responsible for the crime.
Gininda detailed how a police constable, Skhumbuzo Zungu, played a crucial role in providing information that led to the identification of the suspects. Zungu’s father, Absalom Zungu, was a direct witness to the crime, and after much persuasion, he provided a statement implicating Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi.
Zungu’s testimony linked the accused to the murder, placing them at the scene of the crime in Vosloorus. Despite facing threats and safety concerns, Zungu bravely came forward with crucial evidence that helped advance the investigation.
The breakthrough in the case came after years of uncertainty, shedding light on the tragic events surrounding Senzo Meyiwa’s untimely death.
