Resolving the Yemen Crisis: Chinese Envoy Emphasizes Dialogue as the Key Solution
A senior Chinese diplomat emphasized the importance of holding dialogues and consultations as the “only correct choice” to resolve the ongoing crisis in Yemen. Geng Shuang, deputy permanent representative of China to the UN, addressed the United Nations Security Council and urged the Houthis to respect international law by ensuring the safety of shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
Geng highlighted that escalating tensions in the region do not align with the interests of the international community. He called for all parties involved to maintain calm and refrain from actions that could further exacerbate the situation. Emphasizing the need for a political settlement, Geng urged for dialogue and consultation to move towards a comprehensive political process led and owned by the Yemeni people.
Additionally, China stressed the importance of increasing humanitarian aid and development assistance for Yemen, as well as supporting efforts to improve the livelihood of the Yemeni population. The Chinese diplomat also expressed concerns over the detention of UN personnel in Yemen, calling for immediate release through enhanced communication and collaboration among all parties involved.
