China’s permanent representative to the United Nations emphasized the need to uphold and revitalize the effectiveness of UN Security Council resolutions, particularly regarding the situation in Gaza. Despite existing resolutions calling for a ceasefire in the region, implementation has been lacking, undermining the credibility of the UN system.

By calling for all states to adhere to Council resolutions, the ambassador highlighted the importance of collective responsibility. China urged the United States to support immediate actions for a ceasefire, questioning the impact of providing extensive military aid to Israel in light of the ongoing conflict.

Furthermore, the envoy stressed the necessity of upholding international humanitarian law and ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian organizations in Gaza. The call for Israel to fulfill its obligations, lift restrictions, and cooperate with humanitarian entities reflects China’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in the region.

China also expressed firm opposition to any efforts to undermine the UN relief agency for Palestinians, UNRWA, emphasizing its vital role in providing assistance. The statement emphasized the importance of collective action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and uphold the principles of international law.
