BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 17 – Today marks Fuzuli City Day, commemorating the liberation of Fuzuli from Armenian occupation four years ago. The city was freed during the 44-day Patriotic War after battles lasting from September 27 to October 17.
An Azerbaijani army officer shared his experiences from the operations to reclaim Fuzuli, highlighting the strategic importance of the region. The Azerbaijani Army’s advance along the southern front, breaking through multiple defense lines, proved crucial in regaining control.
On October 16-17, fierce fighting led to the complete liberation of Fuzuli, including surrounding villages. Military commentator Ramil Mammadli emphasized the significance of blocking enemy supply routes and strategic gains following the city’s liberation.
The Fuzuli operation was a pivotal moment during the Second Karabakh War, showcasing the Azerbaijani Army’s strength and determination. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the liberated Fuzuli district further symbolized the nation’s victory and resilience.
