Yakuza Suspect Nabbed for Osaka Watch Heist in 3 Minutes

Two individuals, one of whom is a yakuza member, were arrested by the Osaka Prefectural Police for allegedly stealing a delivery vehicle containing around 170 Rolex watches in Osaka. Shinya Onishi, a 52-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi crime syndicate’s Kodokai faction, is one of the suspects.

The theft occurred on May 21 in Osaka’s Chuo Ward when the suspects drove off with a light truck carrying luxury watches valued at approximately ¥283 million ($1.9 million). The truck driver had temporarily left the unmarked vehicle unattended for a few minutes without securing it, providing an opportunity for the theft.

The suspects, who have not confessed to the crime, are believed to have orchestrated the theft as an organized crime involving a syndicate leader with knowledge of luxury watch deliveries. The police investigation is ongoing to uncover any further details.

Details on whether the suspects participated in other criminal activities or how the stolen watches were intended to be sold have not been disclosed by the authorities.
