Israel’s continuous attacks on UN staff and facilities in Gaza and Lebanon have prompted calls for its expulsion from the international body by the director of a UN-affiliated NGO, Mohamad Safa. Safa, the Executive Director at Patriotic Vision Organization (PVA), highlighted Israel’s disregard for UN resolutions and laws, putting humanitarian workers at risk and undermining the UN’s mandate for peace and stability.
Recent attacks on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) by Israeli forces have resulted in injuries to peacekeepers, sparking condemnation from several countries, including Israel’s allies like France and Italy. Despite the repeated violations, Israel remains in the UN, raising questions about accountability within the organization and the enforcement of international law.
Safa emphasized the need for reforms within the UN to ensure accountability for member states like Israel. He called for swift action to protect civilians, investigate crimes, and strengthen the UN’s presence in conflict regions. As calls for accountability grow, the effectiveness of the UN in upholding international law and human rights is being challenged by its handling of Israel’s actions.
