Tanker explosion kills 90 in Jigawa, says Police

The town of Majiya in Jigawa State is in mourning after a devastating petrol tanker explosion that claimed the lives of at least 90 people. The incident, which occurred near Khadija University, left another 50 individuals with serious injuries.

According to Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, the driver of the tanker lost control and subsequently, the vehicle exploded. The driver was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe when the tragedy took place.

Despite repeated warnings from the police to stay away from accidents involving fuel tankers, bystanders often gather at these scenes, putting themselves at risk. This gathering is believed to have contributed to the high number of casualties in this particular incident.

A mass burial for the victims is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, while the injured are receiving treatment at Ringim General Hospital. This is a tragic event that has shaken the community and serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with fuel tanker accidents.
