Global participation in the upcoming Oct. 27 general election in Japan kicked off on Wednesday with overseas voting at Japanese embassies. Excitement was palpable as citizens cast their votes in locations such as Seoul, Beijing, and Shanghai.
At the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, Japanese student Suzuha Iida expressed her anticipation of the election, influenced by her South Korean classmates’ interest in politics. Meanwhile, a man from Shizuoka Prefecture decided his vote based on candidates’ foreign policy stances.
In Beijing, voters shared their hopes for economic cooperation and bilateral relations between Japan and China. Similarly, in Shanghai, where a significant Japanese population resides, citizens emphasized the need for modernizing the voting process.
Despite using traditional paper ballots, voters worldwide showed their commitment to shaping Japan’s future and strengthening international ties. As the election date approaches, the global Japanese community remains actively engaged in the democratic process.
