Israel’s long-standing goal to control the Litani River due to its significance as a water resource has led to repeated invasions of southern Lebanon since the 1970s. Despite claims that the conflict with Hezbollah prompted these actions, historical evidence suggests a different motive. Continuous support from the US and UK has allowed Israel to carry out genocidal assaults with impunity, undermining international law and humanitarian standards. The recent atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon demonstrate a blatant disregard for civilian lives, highlighting the prioritization of an Israeli victory above all else.
The UK government, under Keir Starmer’s Labour, has shown unwavering loyalty to the US despite public support for a ceasefire in Gaza. This subservience reflects a worrying trend where basic moral values are overridden by political interests. Recent statements affirming continued weapon sales to Israel underscore the government’s complicity in enabling further violence against innocent civilians. It is clear that Israel’s actions are unchecked, with no limit to the atrocities it can commit under the support of its allies.
