Chinese Spokesperson Criticizes Taiwan Leader’s ‘Taiwan Independence’ Claims
A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland, Chen Binhua, slammed Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te’s recent speech on October 10, labeling it as “outright ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist claims.” During a press conference in Beijing on October 16, Chen condemned Lai’s remarks as an attempt to seek independence by relying on external forces and creating international confusion regarding the status of Taiwan.
Chen emphasized that Taiwan is an integral part of China’s territory based on historical documents like the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation. He also highlighted the United Nations’ Resolution 2758 from 1971, which affirmed Taiwan as part of China.
Chen called on the international community to see through Lai’s intentions and not be misled by his advocacy for ‘Taiwan independence,’ which poses a challenge to the established international order. He reaffirmed that Taiwan’s status as a part of China remains unchanged.
