Simelane decision delay impacts Presidency

President Cyril Ramaphosa is carefully considering the allegations against justice minister Thembi Simelane before taking any action, according to Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya. Despite revelations that Simelane received a loan from a company linked to the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, there is no evidence that her department or its agencies are being negatively affected.

Magwenya emphasized that the President is aware of the public concern surrounding the matter but is not rushing into a decision. He assured that there is no political interference in the department and it continues to function effectively.

The allegations against Simelane involve a questionable loan agreement during her time as mayor of Polokwane, where the municipality invested in VBS. While the delay in action by Ramaphosa has sparked criticism, Magwenya defended the President’s approach, stating that he prioritizes stability within the portfolio.

Overall, the President is committed to thorough consideration of the situation to ensure the continued smooth operation of the department and its agencies.
