The International Committee of the Red Cross has dispatched a team of surgeons to provide vital medical care for war-related injuries at Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut.
Numerous patients have been transferred from hospitals in the southern region due to escalating Israeli airstrikes, with approximately 1.2 million individuals fleeing from southern and eastern Lebanon.
Simone Casabianca-Aeschlimann, the ICRC’s Lebanon head, highlighted the strain on the country’s healthcare system caused by the influx of wounded patients.
Expressing concerns about the uncertain future of the conflict, she emphasized the challenges faced by the medical teams. The ICRC recently delivered essential medical supplies, including war surgery kits, to assist in treating over 2,000 critically injured patients in multiple hospitals across Lebanon.
Lebanese authorities reported over 2,350 fatalities and more than 10,900 injuries since the conflict began a year ago, with the majority occurring in the past month.
