Presidential aide claims leadership lacks vacuum

Is there a leadership vacuum in Nigeria? According to the Presidency, the answer is no. President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashimu Shettima may be out of the country, but they are still fully engaged with the nation’s affairs.

Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, clarified that despite their absence, there is no leadership void in the country. President Tinubu, who is on a two-week working vacation, has been active in issuing directives on state matters even while away.

Vice President Shettima is currently in Sweden on an official visit, but all state organs are functioning as usual. The government machinery continues to operate smoothly with key officials such as the Senate President, SGF, Ministers, and Service Chiefs in their respective positions.

It’s not the first time such a situation has occurred, as past administrations also faced similar circumstances. The Constitution does not mandate the physical presence of the President or Vice President at all times to carry out their duties.

So, rest assured, there is no vacuum in leadership in Nigeria.
