Presidency declares: No vacuum even with Tinubu and Shettima away

Amidst concerns about leadership vacuum in the country, the Presidency has reassured Nigerians that there is no gap in governance, even as President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are currently out of the country. The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that both leaders remain fully engaged with national affairs despite their physical absence.

The Constitution does not mandate the President and Vice President to always be present in the country to discharge their duties, especially in the modern virtual age. This statement was issued in response to worries about who is in charge while both leaders are away, citing a similar situation in 2022 when President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo were simultaneously out of the country.

President Tinubu is on a two-week working vacation, while the Vice President is on an official visit to Sweden, both working for the nation. The government assures that all state organs are functioning smoothly, with key officials carrying out their responsibilities efficiently.
