Official source seeks suggestions for amendments to Special Tax Bylaw

The government is open to discussion and suggestions on recent decisions regarding electric vehicles, according to an official source. The Cabinet of former prime minister Bishr Khasawneh approved an amendment to the Special Tax Bylaw for 2024 in September, reducing taxes on gasoline-powered vehicles while gradually increasing them for higher-priced electric vehicles.

The government believes in continuity in decision-making and is evaluating the impact of these changes. The previous government reviewed the policy on electric vehicles nearly ten years ago, leading to the recent amendments. The current government is in communication with stakeholders, ready to listen to their views and engage in discussions.

The aim of the amendments is to reduce the tax gap between electric and gasoline-powered vehicles while ensuring that electric vehicles still benefit from a lower tax rate. The government is open to feedback and willing to consider all perspectives on this matter.
