MP: Iran Should Possess Nuclear Arms

Iran’s Push for Nuclear Weapons: A New Strategy on the Horizon

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iranian MP Ali-Asghar Nakhaei-Rad has proposed a significant shift in Iran’s nuclear doctrine. Nakhaei-Rad believes that Iran should explore the option of equipping itself with nuclear weapons, emphasizing the distinction between possessing such weapons and actually using them.

A group of 39 Iranian parliament members have urged the Supreme National Security Council to reassess the country’s defense strategy regarding nuclear weapons production. The potential revision could indicate a significant policy change, ultimately requiring approval from Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Since the US withdrawal from the 2016 Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action, Iran has faced renewed economic sanctions, prompting the parliament to strategize ways to counter these restrictions within the nuclear sector. However, this decision has resulted in reduced monitoring capabilities by the IAEA.

As tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, the prospect of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons could further intensify regional complexities. The outcome of this proposed nuclear strategy remains uncertain, but it poses a significant development in the ongoing geopolitical landscape.
