Uruguay: International airport at Melo inaugurated
President Luis Lacalle Pou inaugurated the new international airport at Melo, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing Uruguay’s air connectivity. The terminal’s remodeling cost $12 million and is part of the National System of International Airports operations. Lacalle Pou praised the collaboration and vision of various stakeholders that led to the airport’s completion.
The President highlighted the airport’s strategic location in the northeast, fostering economic growth and export opportunities. Cerro Largo’s development through infrastructure projects like the airport, a planned bridge, and port terminals signifies a new era of prosperity for the region. The airport upgrade includes enhanced safety features, new runway lighting, a fire station, and communication systems.
Melo is the fourth airport modernized by Corporación América Airports, aligning with the country’s goal to improve air travel infrastructure nationwide. The successful inauguration marks a significant step towards expanding Uruguay’s aviation capabilities and stimulating regional development.
