Mayor killed in Israeli strike on S. Lebanon HQ

An Israeli airstrike targeted the municipal headquarters in Nabatieh, Lebanon, killing the mayor and at least five others. The attack signals a potential shift in Israel’s air campaign against Iran-backed Hezbollah, now including public officials and buildings.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack on the provincial capital, emphasizing that it targeted a meeting discussing the city’s services and relief efforts. This strike marks Israel’s most significant hit on a Lebanese state building since the offensive began two weeks ago.

The Health Ministry reported six casualties, including the mayor, escalating tensions in the region as Israel engages in battles with Hezbollah and Hamas in Gaza. Despite international calls for a cease-fire, Israel remains committed to its military operations in Lebanon and Gaza.

No signs of cease-fire

With diplomatic efforts to reach a cease-fire facing challenges, the situation remains volatile. Israel’s sustained attacks have led to casualties and displacement in Lebanon, while European countries continue to support peacekeeping efforts.
