Mayor killed in Israeli strike on S. Lebanon HQ

An Israeli airstrike on the municipal headquarters in Nabatiyeh, a key town in southern Lebanon, killed the mayor and at least 16 others on Wednesday. The attack raised fears of Israel’s widening campaign against Iran-backed Hezbollah, potentially targeting public officials and buildings.

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister condemned the attack, calling it a deliberate strike on a council meeting. The airstrike marked a significant hit on a Lebanese state building amidst escalating tensions in the region.

The Israeli military reported striking multiple Hezbollah targets in Nabatiyeh and dismantling underground infrastructure. The ongoing conflict includes battles in different regions and potential retaliation options against Iran’s aggressive actions.

Despite international calls for a cease-fire, Israel continues its military operations targeting Hezbollah strongholds. The escalating conflict has led to a high number of casualties and displaced populations on both sides.

No signs of cease-fire

Western countries push for diplomatic solutions while the U.S. supports Israel’s defense strategies. The situation remains volatile with no clear path to peace amid ongoing military confrontations.
