The French President’s Visit to Morocco: Securing Military Deals and Strengthening Relations

The recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Morocco is not just a diplomatic gesture, but a strategic move to secure lucrative military deals with the North African country. According to La Tribune, Macron’s visit is expected to further solidify the warming relations between Morocco and France.

One of the most significant deals in talks is the potential sale of Airbus helicopters to the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces. This deal could be worth between €600 million and €800 million, boosting Airbus’s facilities and Safran Helicopter Engines. However, competition for other defense contracts, like tactical transport aircraft and naval vessels, is fierce.

While France has been a major defense partner for Morocco, the country is now looking to diversify its suppliers and seek more competitive deals. The influence of Asian defense companies, particularly from South Korea, is challenging the traditional dominance of Western suppliers in the region.
