Last mercy flight from Lebanon brings hundreds of Aussies home

Australia’s final government-assisted flight from Lebanon landed in Sydney, reuniting evacuees with their families. Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong expressed gratitude for support from commercial airlines and partner countries, evacuating a total of 3121 people. She commended the efforts of staff in Beirut, Cyprus, and Canberra for their coordination. As commercial flights remain the advised mode of departure, the government may not be able to assist those who delay. Wong also advocated for a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza amidst interruptions by pro-Palestine protestors at a speech in Tasmania.
