Italian Prime Minister Imposes Strict Restrictions on Arms Exports to Israel
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced the immediate imposition of strict restrictions on arms exports to Israel in light of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. All new licenses for the export of military materials to Israel have been suspended since the start of the Israeli operation, with contracts signed after October 7 not being executed. Meloni emphasized that Italy’s measures are more stringent than those applied by France, Germany, and Britain, with existing export licenses being reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Italy continues to assess both new and old licenses, taking steps to prevent the export of weapons that could potentially escalate the current crisis. Meloni made these comments in the Italian Parliament ahead of the EU summit on October 17-18, highlighting Italy’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
