Dozens of aid groups have issued a warning that “northern Gaza is being wiped off the map” by Israeli forces as part of an ongoing campaign to ethnically cleanse the area of its Palestinian inhabitants. Israel has ordered the remaining 400,000 Palestinians in the north to evacuate and imposed a renewed siege on civilians until compliance is met.
The campaign began on 6 October, with Israel launching a major offensive on northern Gaza and instructing residents to move south. Israeli officers and analysts have hinted at implementing the controversial “Generals’ Plan” to ethnically cleanse the area, despite claiming Hamas has been defeated.
Since the operation began, at least 350 Palestinians have been killed, with 65 fatalities in the last 24 hours alone. The aid groups accuse Israel of forced displacement, disregarding legal orders from the International Court of Justice to halt actions that may amount to genocide.
The World Food Programme has raised food security concerns in northern Gaza, with hospitals also impacted by the ongoing conflict. The conflict has prompted accusations of war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people.
Take Action Against Atrocities
It is imperative for global institutions to intervene decisively to halt the escalating violence in Gaza. Empty promises of adherence to international law won’t suffice; concerted efforts are required to stop the genocidal actions being committed against Palestinians by Israel.
