Israel criticized by UN Security Council in Gaza emergency meeting

The UN Security Council session witnessed unprecedented criticism of Israel from countries such as the UK, France, and Algeria. The discussion highlighted the tragic events at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where Palestinians burned to death following an IDF strike. Accusations of starvation tactics, displacement of Palestinians, and lack of humanitarian aid were directed at Israel.

‘Unconscionable’

The UN criticized Israel for hindering aid delivery into Gaza, leading to dire conditions in the region. Acting UN aid chief Joyce Msuya condemned the lack of humanitarian access to northern Gaza. The US urged Israel to improve the situation in 30 days or face aid restrictions.

The IDF recent aid efforts were lauded, with Israel’s Ambassador to the UN emphasizing compliance with international law. However, questions were raised by Algeria’s UN Ambassador on the disparity between vaccination and food supply in Gaza, suggesting a deliberate policy of starvation by Israel.
