Internatl calls for restraint as Israeli strikes hit Lebanese town

An Israeli air strike in Nabatiyeh killed the mayor and at least five others, escalating tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza despite US concerns. The Israeli military targeted Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, including the dismantling of underground infrastructure.

The UN called for the protection of civilians and infrastructure in the region, as Israeli strikes hit municipality buildings. The situation in Gaza also reached a critical point, with the UN Palestinian refugee agency stating that operations were close to breaking point.

Iran called for more pressure on Israel’s backers to end the violence. The US expressed concerns about the scope of Israeli attacks in Beirut. European Union countries vowed to continue their contributions to the UN peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, despite Israeli calls for withdrawal.

The Middle East remains on edge as Iran launched missiles at Israel, with promises of retaliation. The escalating violence has resulted in a significant death toll and displacement of civilians in the region.

Diplomatic efforts have stalled as the fighting between Israel, Hezbollah, and Hamas continues.
