Falklands Set to Receive First Revamped Islander Aircraft with Funding from Britten-Norman
Britten-Norman has completed its second funding round, securing significant capital from Northern Ireland-based Beechlands Enterprises.
Britten-Norman, the UK’s top utility aircraft manufacturer, has successfully closed its second funding round with substantial capital from Beechlands Enterprises in Northern Ireland.
This funding will speed up production of the iconic Islander aircraft and enhance the aftermarket business. The Islander aircraft is well-known for its service with Falkland Islands Government Air Service, FIGAS, and its role in Fisheries Patrol in defense of the Islands’ resources. The first revamped aircraft is earmarked for the Falkland Islands once the repatriation program is complete.
Britten-Norman plans to increase aircraft production in the UK to eight units annually in the first phase, focusing on the unleaded piston version of the Islander with some turboprop models. Investments in advanced manufacturing tools will improve efficiency and production capabilities.
Former Deputy Chief Engineer Patrick Cowan will join Britten-Norman’s board as part of the investment. Beechlands Director Alison Rankin Frost expressed excitement over the investment, while Britten-Norman CEO William Hynett highlighted the company’s commitment to manufacturing excellence and aftermarket support.
