Ex-MP and 6 others nabbed for corruption involving tuk-tuks

A scandal has emerged in South Africa regarding the non-delivery of tuk-tuks intended for waste pickers in the Ekurhuleni municipality. The service provider issued a letter of demand to the department for an additional payment of over R9m for the safekeeping and storage of the fleet. It was also revealed that the company had failed to disclose its affiliation to a politician during the bidding process.

Following a case registered in October 2020, the Hawks initiated an investigation, leading to charges of fraud, theft, and violations of various acts against the suspects involved. The situation highlights a serious breach of trust and misuse of public funds.
