Former Minister Warns of Looming Anarchy Due to Hunger

In a recent statement, former Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Chief Nduese Essien, has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to reconsider its policies amidst a growing wave of hunger and discontent among Nigerians. Essien warned of possible anarchy due to the economic policies exacerbating poverty and inflation, leaving many struggling to survive.

Essien criticized the abrupt removal of fuel subsidies and other economic policies, stating that they are causing unprecedented suffering. He urged the government to rethink its approach and find a balance between reducing fiscal deficit and preventing citizens from plunging deeper into poverty.

Additionally, Essien expressed disappointment in the underperformance of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), describing it as a symbol of corruption and inefficiency. He called for urgent steps to refocus the NDDC on its core mandate to bring development to the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

Chief Essien also highlighted the need for electoral reforms and greater transparency in local government elections. He emphasized the importance of the judiciary’s role in upholding democracy and fundamental rights.

It is essential for the government to address these issues promptly to avoid further unrest and instability in the country.
