Israel’s targeting relief and ambulance teams in Lebanon violates international law, says Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.
According to the Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel’s continued targeting of medical and relief workers in Lebanon is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. The organization reports that at least 120 medical and relief workers have been killed in Israel’s recent attacks on Lebanon through the direct targeting of ambulance and relief crews.
Four Medics Injured
An Israeli strike wounded four medical volunteers from a Red Cross convoy in Sarbin, southern Lebanon, after targeting a house and then the convoy. Two ambulances were damaged in the attack.
Aid Trucks Targeted
Israeli forces also targeted two aid trucks flying Red Cross flags in Ras Baalbek, injuring one driver. Euro-Med emphasized the alarming pattern mirroring Gaza, where aid trucks may be targeted in the future.
Rome Statute
According to Euro-Med, attacking medical transports is a war crime under international law, as outlined in the Rome Statute and Geneva Conventions.
‘End Israel’s Crimes’
Euro-Med calls on the international community to stop Israel’s crimes against civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and uphold international laws protecting medical personnel and aid delivery.
