Canada has shifted its stance towards Israel, condemning Israeli attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza and UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. The country, which had previously supported Israel’s military actions, is now expressing concern about the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
The Canadian government stated, “The increasingly dire humanitarian situation is unacceptable and continues to deteriorate due to a significant decrease of aid allowed into Gaza.” Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and International Aid Minister Ahmed Hussen called for an immediate ceasefire and also denounced attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah on Israel.
Canada’s strong words mark a departure from its previous support for Israel, signaling a growing recognition of the human cost of the conflict. The statement emphasizes the need to protect civilians and ensure access to essential resources in the midst of ongoing violence.
