Urgent Appeal for Help: Akobo Hospital in Jonglei State Faces Drug Shortage Crisis.
The main hospital in Jonglei State’s Akobo County is in a dire situation as it grapples with a severe shortage of essential drugs, leaving doctors struggling to attend to the daily influx of 150 to 200 patients. The medical director, Nyuon Koang, explained that the hospital’s implementing partner, ICRC, concluded operations in August, and the new partner, Care International, has not yet taken over, leading to the depletion of vital medications, especially injectables.
The lack of fuel for generators is also a major concern as five patients rely on oxygen. Both hospital staff and patients are appealing for immediate assistance as the situation worsens. Nyahoth Gany, whose newborn baby is hospitalized, emphasized the challenges faced due to food ration cuts and missing prescribed drugs. Similarly, patient John Deng highlighted the urgent need for government and health partners’ intervention to prevent further deterioration.
