이재명, 영광 낙승…조국, 호남 교두보 실패

In the recent by-elections for local government officials in Yeonggwang and Gokseong in Jeollanam-do and Ganghwa in Incheon, the ruling Democratic Party maintained its stronghold in Yeonggwang and Gokseong, while the main opposition party, the People Power Party, secured victory in Ganghwa. In Yeonggwang, Democratic candidate Jang Se-il won with 41.08% of the vote.

Despite facing tough competition from other progressive candidates, Jang’s victory was a testament to the enduring support for the Democratic Party in the region. Similarly, in Gokseong, Democratic candidate Jo Sang-rae won with 55.26% of the vote. In Ganghwa, the People Power Party’s Park Yong-chul emerged victorious with 50.97% of the vote.

These by-elections have significant implications for the political landscape in these regions and reflect the changing dynamics of voter preferences. The high voter turnout in Yeonggwang also underscores the significance of local elections in shaping the future direction of governance.
