UN warns Israel sealing off northern Gaza, may force transfer civilians.

The United Nations Human Rights Office has issued a warning, stating that Israel is effectively isolating North Gaza and potentially carrying out the large-scale forced transfer of the civilian population, which could constitute a war crime.

For over a week, the Israeli military has been conducting a strong offensive in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave, instructing all civilians north of Gaza City to evacuate and blocking food supplies from entering the area. The UN Human Rights Office reported that Israel’s actions, including firing on fleeing civilians, are endangering the lives and security of Palestinian civilians.

The situation in northern Gaza is reminiscent of a “surrender or starve” proposal put forth by retired Israeli general Giora Eiland, although Israel’s cabinet has not fully adopted it. Despite claiming to adhere to international law, the Israeli military’s actions are causing concerns about a potential large-scale forced transfer of the civilian population in North Gaza.

The UN Human Rights Office has emphasized that any forced transfer would be a war crime and urged Israel to allow civilians to return to their homes. The escalating situation in North Gaza underscores the need for a peaceful resolution and respect for human rights.
