Britain Takes Action Against Illegal Settler Outposts in West Bank

Britain has announced new sanctions against three “illegal settler outposts” and four groups accused of committing violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Foreign Secretary David Lammy criticized the Israeli government for allowing an environment of impunity where settler violence has flourished unchecked.

The sanctioned organizations include a religious school, a NGO, a charity, and a construction company. The settlements targeted are the Tirzah Valley Farm Outpost, Meitarim Outpost, and Shuvi Eretz Outpost. The United States has also imposed similar sanctions recently.

Violence in the West Bank has escalated since Hamas attacked Israel last year. The Palestinian health ministry reported two fatalities in Jenin on Monday, adding to the over 700 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the past year.

The UK’s announcement follows former foreign secretary David Cameron’s revelation of plans to sanction two “extremist” Israeli ministers. These developments underline the ongoing conflicts and tensions in the region.
